Cummer Museum Exhibit: “Women’s Rights Movement” by Teresa Cook “Elizabeth Cady Clayton”

Elizabeth Cady Stanton, an American writer and activist, led the women's rights movement in the U.S. during the mid- to late-19th century. She played a key role in the 1848 Seneca Falls Convention, advocating for women's rights like voting. Stanton was also involved in abolitionism and other social reforms.

It is worth mentioning that the women rode in on bicycles, symbolizing the freedom they desired and found necessary during that time. Interestingly, when the Civil War erupted, she decided to put her campaign for women's suffrage on hold to actively support the emancipation of slaves.
